Attorney General Lori Swanson has obtained a court order banning Florida-based Help the Vets, Inc. from soliciting in Minnesota because they misrepresented that donations would help wounded and disabled military veterans. Swanson says instead donations primarily benefited the organization’s president, Neil Paulson, and the charity’s for-profit telemarketers. It’s the fifth legal action Swanson has taken in the past year against bogus veterans “charities.” She says, “Outfits that take advantage of donors seeking to help veterans have no place in Minnesota.” The Federal Trade Commission and attorneys general in five other states participated in the legal case against Help the Vets.
