How to further improve Minnesota’s child protection system — that’s the topic as a special task force continues working at the State Capitol today. After the tragic death of four-year-old Eric Dean in 2013, the legislature made changes in how child protection reports are filed and how counties must respond to them. Mankato Senator Kathy Sheran says because of that “there’s an increased number of child protection reports put in the system.” But Sheran says “now we have to improve the breadth of services that we need to provide for families and for children in order for them to be safe and secure.”
