Cleveland-based Cliffs Natural Resources says it has a tentative agreement with the United Steelworkers Union on a three-year labor contract covering about two thousand workers at its United Taconite and Hibbing Taconite mines in Minnesota, plus facilities in Michigan. The company is not releasing details pending a ratification vote by union members. Cliffs’ C-E-O says the agreement is “fair and equitable to both parties” and gives the company “a competitive cost structure for future success.” Senator Al Franken applauds the agreement, calling it “another positive sign that our Iron Range economy is recovering.”
