Late October and November are the peak time for deer-vehicle crashes in Minnesota.
Sue Roe with MnDOT says motorists need to be particularly alert during dusk and dawn when deer move between daytime bedding sites and evening feeding areas and a high percentage of crashes occur. And she says “when you see a deer-while it might seem like the right thing to do to swerve, that’s really what causes you to lose control or travel right into the path of another vehicle, so striking a deer is a lot safer than colliding with another vehicle.”
From 2013 to 2015, there were more than six thousand reported deer-car crashes–and 15 fatalities in Minnesota.
