Many schools in Minnesota are closed today as a winter storm is expected to dump measurable snow across the state. The snowfall started in southern and western Minnesota and is moving to the north and east. The Twin Cities and southeastern Minnesota had drizzle overnight. Northern and northeastern Minnesota are under a winter storm warning and could see more than a half foot of snow. A blizzard warning is posted for western and southern Minnesota and a winter weather advisory is in effect for most of central Minnesota. Three to six inches are expected in those areas. Travel conditions will become hazardous due to strong winds, blowing and drifting snow.
