The experts say we’re just entering high-risk tick season in Minnesota. Dave Neitzel with the state Health Department says the recent cold and snow likely won’t have much of an impact on the season. He says in weather like this, the ticks “crawl down into the rotting leaves that coat the forest floor, and that protects them from the elements and as soon as the weather gets nice again, the ticks just come right back out.” As for what kind of a season it may be, Neitzel says…
Neitzel says because of our mostly mild winter there are more black-legged adult ticks out and it’s a good idea to start using repellents with DEET now. And if you’re walking in a wooded area, he recommends checking for ticks immediately after and taking a shower to prevent tick bites and the transfer of disease.
