Tim Walz is officially the 41st governor of Minnesota after his swearing in this morning in St. Paul. In his inaugural address, Walz reiterated his vision of “One Minnesota” saying “One Minnesota is in our blood, it is borne of our shared values, it’s sewn into the fabrics of our communities, it is driven by the collective good and fueled by our innovation, no matter how daunting the challenge, no matter how dark the times, Minnesotans have always risen up by coming together . ” In his inaugural address, Walz also emphasized the importance of focusing on education and said “disparities in our educational system based on race, geography, or economic status hold back not only our students but our entire state from reaching its full potential. That’s why we must dedicate ourselves now that we must make Minnesota the education state for all children, black, white, brown, indigenous.” Walz says healthcare and infrastructure are also priorities of his administration moving forward. At today’s ceremony, Peggy Flanagan was sworn in as the first Native American lieutenant governor in state history. Also sworn in today: Keith Ellison as Attorney General, Steve Simon as Secretary of State and Julie Blaha as State Auditor. The state legislative gets underway tomorrow.
