Player Notes
Anthony Edwards led the Timberwolves once again tonight with a game-high 32 points on 13-of-18 shooting, including 4-of-6 from deep and a season-high-tying six assists, marking his 10th 30+ point game of the season (102nd career) and his fifth 30+ point/5+ assist outing of the season (56th career). Edwards is tied for the third-most 30+ point performances in the NBA this season.
Edwards’ 102 30+ point performance moves his past Karl-Anthony Towns (101) for the most such games in Timberwolves history. He is now tied with Kobe Bryant for 14th on the NBA all-time list for the most 30+ point games age 24 or younger.
With tonight’s outing, Edwards has now logged five consecutive 30+ point games, the longest such streak of his career. This also marks the second-longest streak in Timberwolves history, one game shy of Kevin Love’s record of six straight games, which stretched from Feb. 10 – 25, 2014.
Julius Randle finished tonight’s matchup with 22 points on 9-of-15 shooting, six rebounds, and a game-high and season-high-tying 12 assists, marking his 12th 20+ point game of the season (343rd career). Randle notched his third point/assist double-double of the season (20th career) and his first 20+ point/10+ assist game of the season (seventh career). He’s the 28th player in Wolves history to tally 20+ points and 10+ assists in a game.
Tonight’s performance also marked Randle’s first 20+ point/5+ rebound/10+ assist outing of the season (seventh career), the first Wolves player this season with those marks and the 21st player in team history to do so.
In 29:36 minutes off the bench, Naz Reid closed the night with 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including three makes from deep, six rebounds, three assists and two steals, marking his ninth 15+ point game of the season (124th career). Tonight also marks Reid’s third 15+ point/5+ rebound/2+ steal game of the season (21st career).
Team Notes
With tonight’s win against San Antonio, Minnesota moves to 12-8 overall on the season, the fifth most wins in franchise history through 20 games of a season. The Wolves have now won four straight games at Target Center to move to 7-3 at home through the first 10 home games of the season, the fifth most wins at home through the first 10 home games of a season in team history.
Following tonight’s 125-112 win, the Timberwolves have now defeated the Spurs in four consecutive games, tied for the longest win streak against the Spurs in franchise history (Nov. 1, 1996 – Feb. 26, 1997).
In defeating the Spurs in tonight’s matchup after beating the Boston Celtics last night, Minnesota secured their second back-to-back set sweep of the season (Nov. 9 at Sacramento: W, 144-117 and Nov. 10 at Utah: W, 120-113). The Wolves are now 2-2 in the second game of back-to-back games and 6-2 overall in back-to-backs this season.
Led by Randle’s season-high-tying 12 assists, the Wolves finished tonight’s game with a season-high 35 assists, marking the seventh game this season with 30+ assists and the 96th such game during the Chris Finch era (Feb. 22, 2021). Minnesota is now 77-19 when collecting 30+ assists with Finch at the helm.
After trailing by 10 points (51-41) at the 7:50 mark of the second quarter, the Timberwolves outscored the Spurs 84-61 the rest of the way for a 125-112 win. This marked the Wolves’ second consecutive 10+ point come-from-behind win after erasing a 12-point deficit last night against the Celtics. The Wolves had not collected a 10+ point comeback this season prior to last night’s comeback win against the Celtics.
Led by Donte DiVincenzo and Edwards, who each knocked down four threes, the Wolves finished the night going 17-of-37 from deep, marking the third consecutive and ninth game this season in which Minnesota made 15+ shots from deep. Since the start of last season, the Timberwolves have collected 15+ threes in 49 games, the fifth-most such games in the NBA during that span.
