A second day of hearings at the State Capitol, this time in the Senate, on a bill that would ban cell phone use while driving, except in hands-free mode. That committee also debates a bill that would make penalties the same as D-W-I for those who injure or kill someone while driving and using a cell phone. Meanwhile a House committee gets an update on affordable housing in Minnesota, and advocates unveil what they call “the boldest agenda in state history to address Minnesota’s statewide housing crisis.” Citizens pushing to expand school choice options for parents and students rally in the Capitol Rotunda. And House and Senate committees both hear bills that would earmark 400 thousand dollars for each of the next two years to increase military members’ and veterans’ participation in apprenticeship programs to help them get jobs in the construction industry. It’s called “Helmets to Hard Hats.”
