Activists are at Governor Tim Walz’s office this morning (830am), urging him to halt Enbridge’s plans to upgrade its Line 3 pipeline through northern Minnesota. Walz has not yet said whether he’ll pursue a legal challenge initiated by his predecessor, Mark Dayton.
There’s also committee debate on a bill that would ask Congress to remove the deadline for ratification of the proposed Equal Rights Amendment to the U-S Constitution. The 1982 deadline passed without the amendment receiving approval from the necessary number of states.
Governor Walz gets an update today on the effect of the government shutdown on federal funding for Section 8 low-income housing. Senate Republicans roll out their plan to fight the opioid epidemic. And a top Democrat proposes controversial bills for background checks on gun sales and so-called “red flag” restrictions on gun possession for those with serious mental health issues.
