Schools couldn’t “shame” students whose parents haven’t paid their lunch account bill, under proposed legislation that has a hearing this morning in the Minnesota House. There’s also a committee work session on a bill that would put statewide regulations on Internet-based transportation services such as Uber and Lyft. A key Senate committee debates a bill that would grant most of Governor Mark Dayton’s request for additional money to fix the state’s ailing vehicle registration system — but under the legislature’s supervision. There are also hearings on prohibiting use of hand-held cell phones while driving, and on increasing the cigarette tax plus restoring the annual inflator — which was eliminated in last year’s end-of-session budget negotiations.
