It would be illegal for an animal shelter, humane society or animal control facility to euthanize a pet or companion animal using carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide or similar gas — under a bill that has a hearing this morning in the Minnesota House. There’s also debate on a bill that would eliminate party designations in races for Minnesota House and Senate. A controversial bill would spend 139 million dollars in state bonding money to acquire and renovate the now closed privately-operated prison in Appleton, the Prairie Correctional Facility. And a committee considers a bill this afternoon that would require the University of Minnesota to collect and report data on incidents of sexual harassment, as it currently must do for sexual assaults. The legislative auditor would also review the U’s sex harassment policies and complaint procedures.
