Top analyst: Next presidential debate important for Klobuchar after jump in Iowa poll

December 12, 2019 By Bill Werner

Senator Amy Klobuchar has hit 10 percent among Democratic presidential hopefuls in the latest Iowa poll, and Carleton College analyst Steven Schier says future surveys will tell whether her momentum is building. Schier says next week’s sixth Democratic presidential debate is a big opportunity for Klobuchar. “Being in the top six in the December debate is a big plus for her, because that indicates at least visually that she’s made the short list, and that also will give her more debate time with a less crowded stage,” he says.

Klobuchar is still well back from frontrunner Joe Biden’s 23 percent in the Iowa poll. Bernie Sanders and Pete Buttigieg are close behind Biden in second and third place, but Elizabeth Warren dropped to fourth at 12 percent.
