Day three of House Democrats presenting their arguments in the impeachment trial of President Trump, with the defense set to begin their rebuttal tomorrow (Sat). Hamline University analyst David Schultz argues, even in the unlikely event Democrats convince Republicans to call witnesses, it won’t change the outcome. Schultz says, “There’s no real political incentive for the Republicans to move on this issue because a) they have to defend the president and b) the president has about a 90-percent approval rating from within his own party.”
Schultz contends events in Washington will set up a trial in the court of public opinion, with a few swing voters in key states deciding the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.
