President Trump visits Minnesota on Monday — Tax Day — to highlight tax cuts he pushed through Congress last year. Hamline University political analyst David Schultz indicates the trip is likely fueled by the president’s desire to win the state in 2020 — but Schultz says it could affect the current legislative session in Minnesota as well. “By coming to the state here, I think he strengthens the Republicans’ resolve in terms of opposing, for example, the provider tax [and] the gas tax,” says Schultz.
Those taxes are centerpieces of Democratic Governor Tim Walz’s agenda on health care and transportation.
