Hamline University analyst David Schultz says Thursday’s U-S House vote on impeachment proceedings was an important political statement, but might not do much to change the Trump administration’s uncooperative stance with investigators. Schultz says a recent court ruling in Washington D-C indicated “whether the House actually declares that it’s doing an inquiry or not seems immaterial regarding whether or not the Trump administration has to comply with subpoenas and other requests for materials.”
Schultz predicts with no clear legal requirement to cooperate, the Trump administration will probably come up with other arguments to refuse to provide information that House Democrats are demanding.
