Top Army Corps officials in Wabasha this week to discuss controversial dredging project

October 9, 2017 By Bill Werner

Top regional officials from the U-S Army Corps of Engineers are in Wabasha later this week (Thurs) to talk about a proposed dredging project that has residents concerned. People say mud dredged to deepen the Mississippi will be dumped too close to their homes and truck traffic will be dangerous. Army Corps project manager Bob Edstrom says they received hundreds of suggestions and are following up on 88 distinct alternatives.  Edstrom says, “I believe there’s enough meat on the bone there to absolutely have an impact on the plan, and if the plan changes substantially we will be looking at having an additional 30-day comment period.”

Edstrom expects a final plan by late winter or early spring.
