A top Democrat at the legislature says the mass shootings in Florida highlight the need for background checks on all firearms purchases in Minnesota, but Saint Louis Park Senator Ron Latz says it should *not* be part of an expected special session. He says, “We’ve got enough on our plate, enough complications over special session right now, plus I don’t think that the political base is there yet.” Latz says there are “pretty close” to the number of votes needed in the Senate to pass a firearms background check bill, but sufficient support is not there yet in the Republican-controlled Minnesota House.
