A top Republican lawmaker in the Minnesota House says he doesn’t see any hope at the legislature this session for a DFL-sponsored bill that would require criminal background checks on all gun sales. Vernon Center Representative Tony Cornish says about Democrats, “If they want go into a fall election saying, we’re gonna go after your guns and raise your taxes, I would encourage that for the DFL, to have that kind of a signature in the campaign.” Cornish’s comments come after former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords visited the State Capitol Tuesday, urging lawmakers to be bold and courageous and pass the gun background check bill.
