Sen. Kathy Sheran (DFL-Mankato)
As court cases continue into the new year, state Senator Kathy Sheran (SHARE-in) predicts the legislature will do little in the 2016 session to change the state’s controversial Sex Offender Treatment program. The issue has become a political hot-potato in an election year. Sheran, a Democrat from Mankato, says many of her colleagues want to wash their hands of it and let the court take its action. Sheran says lawmakers instead of reacting in crisis-mode to court rulings could re-design the program to highly protect public safety. But she says lawmakers have abandoned their responsibility to assure public safety to the best of their ability.
