Top Republicans say they’re not surprised at Dayton administration backpedaling, after the governor said Tuesday he’ll probably “swallow” G-O-P lawmakers’ plan for transportation funding because there’s not enough support for a gas tax increase. Dayton’s MN-DOT commissioner, Charles Zelle, says about the governor’s comments, “I think what you heard recently is just him saying, you know, I’m still willing to make a compromise. But I don’t think it’s him accepting any particular plan.” House Republican transportation point-man, Hanska Representative Paul Torkelson, says he took the governor’s initial comments “with a grain of salt,” but they open the door and show he’s very interested in getting a transportation bill this year.
