Drowsy driving can double your risk of getting in a car crash. That’s according to new research from the Triple A Foundation for Traffic Safety. Triple A Minnesota’s Gail Weinholzer says the recommended sleep for adults is “anywhere from 7 to 9 hours, but based on our findings, we found that those who only sleep 4 to 5 hours are as likely to be involved in a crash as a drunk driver.” Weinholzer says even though most of us know and recognize the warning signs of fatigue–trouble keeping eyes open, drifting out of our lanes–more than half of drivers in fatigue-related crashes experienced no symptoms before falling asleep at the wheel.
