“Trump Out Now” was the message from activists rallying Thursday afternoon in downtown Minneapolis after the president announced the U-S is leaving the Paris Climate Accord. Stephanie Yorek with the Resist from Day One Coalition says, “His pulling out of the accord signals to the world that one of the leading climate destabilizers, the United States, just doesn’t care. It’s gonna shift global momentum in a really bad direction.” President Trump repeatedly vowed to pull out of climate accord during the presidential campaign, saying it hurts American businesses.
Yorek says all of Trump’s policies have been to help a small group of very rich people: “He doesn’t care about the fisherman on the coast of Louisiana. He doesn’t care about people living in the low-lying neighborhoods of Miami. He cares about profits for oil companies… and unfortunately that’s been his agenda from day one.” The president contends the U-S economy must come first.
