Flags are being flown at half-staff all week in Minnesota following the worst mass shooting in U-S history. Governor Mark Dayton is urging Minnesotans to put aside their differences and work to end violence. The Las Vegas shooting left 59 people dead and more than 500 injured.
The son of a former Twins pitcher is being hailed as a hero after the Las Vegas shooting. Todd Blyleven, who was at the Jason Aldean concert reportedly helped his wife and others out of the line of fire, then went back with others to get 30 to 40 more people out. Blyleven says the shooting went on for 10 to 15 minutes.
A former resident of St. Paul remains in critical condition after the shooting in Las Vegas. 36-year old year old Philip Aurich (ORECK), who now lives in Vegas, was among the hundreds wounded during the attack Sunday during a country music concert at the Mandalay Bay resort. Reports say Aurich has undergone multiple surgeries.
A rural New York Mills man who holds the record for the most DWI convictions in Minnesota has been arrested again. 64-year-old Danny Bettcher, was arrested after leaving the VFW in New York Mills. An off-duty deputy saw him drinking and get into his car. Another officer followed Bettcher on Highway 10. He was going about 10 mph and swerving. It’s Bettcher’s 28th DWI arrest. He was sentenced to two years in prison after his last conviction in 2010.
Three residential burglaries are under investigation by Detroit Lakes police. Chief Steve Todd says the break-ins, in the northwestern part of the city, took place early Sunday morning while the victims were home. He says in one case, a shotgun was taken from a rack mounted above a bed while the homeowner was asleep. Todd says money and wallets were the main targets. The thief or thieves got in through unlocked doors or windows.
Safety officials are urging caution this morning as heavy rains continue to pelt much of the state. Flood advisories continue in northeastern Minnesota including Duluth and Hinckley. Flash flood watches are in effect all the way from the Canadian border through the heart of the state, down to the Iowa border.
Manufacturing accounts for one in nine jobs in the state and contributes over 48-billion to the state’s economy. It also accounts for about 18-billion in state exports in 2016. Governor Dayton has proclaimed this week Minnesota Manufacturing Week.
