Minnesota’s measles outbreak could officially come to an end July 29th. Kris Ehresmann with the state Health Department says when two incubation periods pass without any new cases, an outbreak can be declared over. The number of cases in the state has held steady now at 78 for nearly a month. Ehresmann attributes that to “both the up-tick in vaccination that we’ve seen, particularly in the Somali community as well as to many of the public health measures that were taken.” The state Health Department normally documents about 30 measles vaccinations a week among the Somali community and that number rose to about 500 a week during the peak of the outbreak.
