The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have acquired right-handed pitcher Tommy Nance from the Toronto Blue Jays, in exchange for minor league catcher/infielder Ryan Sprock and international bonus pool money.
Nance, 35, has appeared in 32 games for the Blue Jays this season, going 1-2 with a 3.82 ERA (33.0 IP, 14 ER), 13 walks, 34 strikeouts and a .234 opponent batting average, while ranking in MLB’s 95th percentile in chase percentage (36.4%) and 88th percentile in breaking run value (5). Since June 18, he has appeared in eight games for Toronto, posting a 2.00 ERA (9.0 IP, 2 ER) with three walks, seven strikeouts and a .206 opponent batting average. The 6-foot-6, 235-pound righty has held right-handed hitters to a slash line of .159/.205/.261 (.466 OPS) with just three extra-base hits. The Long Beach, California native has pitched in parts of five major league seasons with the Chicago Cubs (2021), Miami Marlins (2022) and Blue Jays (2024-26), going 6-9 with a 4.25 ERA (159.0 IP, 75 ER) with 63 walks, 172 strikeouts and a .236 opponent batting average.
Sprock, 21, was selected by the Twins in the eighth round of the 2025 First-Year Player Draft out of Elon University and has played in 90 minor league games for Minnesota, hitting .288 (86-for-299) with 14 doubles, two triples, seven home runs, 49 RBI, 59 runs scored and an .838 OPS.
To make room for Nance on the 40-man roster, the Twins have transferred right-handed pitcher Mike Abel (right elbow inflammation) to the 60-day Injured List. The Twins will make a corresponding 26-man roster move at a later time.
