The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have claimed right-handed pitcher Dennis Santana off waivers from the Atlanta Braves.
Santana, 26, pitched in 63 games (1 start) for the Texas Rangers last season, going 3-8 with a 5.22 ERA (58.2 IP, 34 ER), one save, 28 walks, 54 strikeouts, a 1.33 WHIP and a .228 opponent batting average.
The San Pedro de Macorís, Dominican Republic native was originally signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2013 and has pitched parts of five seasons in the majors with the Rangers and Dodgers, going 7-14 with a 5.12 ERA (139.0 IP, 79 ER), 72 walks, 128 strikeouts and a .241 opponent batting average in 134 games (1 start).
To make room on the 40-man roster, the Twins have placed infielder Royce Lewis on the 60-day Injured List. Lewis is expected to miss the start of the 2023 regular season while recovering from right knee surgery.
