The Minnesota Twins announced that they have acquired right-handed reliever Jeff Hoffman and cash considerations in a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays, in exchange for minor league left-handed pitcher Dasan Hill, minor league right-handed pitcher John Klein, minor league infielder Dameury Pena and international bonus pool money.

Hoffman, 33, has gone 6-7 with a 3.94 ERA (48.0 IP, 21 ER), five saves, 12 holds, 18 walks, 75 strikeouts, a 1.38 WHIP and an 11.1 inherited runners scored percent (9 IR/1 IRS) in 51 games for the Blue Jays this season, while ranking sixth among MLB relievers in strikeout ratio (34.9%). Since June 9, the right-hander has allowed just two earned runs over 20.2 innings pitched (0.87 ERA), striking out 28 of his 86 batters faced in 21 games in that span.

Over the last four seasons (since 2023), Hoffman has gone 23-19 with a 3.22 ERA (234.2 IP, 84 ER), 49 saves (65 opportunities), 44 holds, 80 walks, 317 strikeouts (12.2 K/9.0 IP), a 1.10 WHIP and a .206 opponent batting average in 244 games for the Philadelphia Phillies (2023-24) and Blue Jays (2025-26). In that span – among MLB relievers with a minimum of 230.0 innings pitched – he ranks second in strikeout ratio (32.5%), fourth in opponent batting average (.206) and fielding independent pitching (3.21), fifth in WHIP (1.10) and sixth in saves (49).

A National League All-Star for Philadelphia in 2024, Hoffman has pitched in parts of 11 seasons with the Colorado Rockies (2016-20), Cincinnati Reds (2021-22), Phillies (2023-24) and Blue Jays (2025-26), going 38-40 with a 4.69 ERA (583.0 IP, 304 ER), 50 saves, 48 holds, 255 walks, 638 strikeouts, a 1.39 WHIP and a .248 opponent batting average in 378 games (50 starts). Since the start of 2024, the Latham, New York native ranks fifth in all of baseball in appearances (190), and has pitched in the Postseason each of the last three seasons since 2023.

Hill, 20, has made 16 starts for High-A Cedar Rapids this season, going 1-8 with a 5.80 ERA (45.0 IP, 29 ER), 37 walks, 77 strikeouts and a 1.73 WHIP. The Grapevine, Texas native was selected by the Twins in Competitive Balance Round B of the 2024 First-Year Player Draft out of Grapevine High School.

Klein, 24, has pitched in 24 games (14 starts) for Triple-A St. Paul this season, going 2-4 with a 5.91 ERA (64.0 IP, 42 ER), 34 walks, 74 strikeouts and a 1.52 WHIP. The Brooklyn Park, Minnesota native made his major league debut earlier this season for the Twins and appeared in three major league games, going 0-1 with a 4.15 ERA (4.1 IP, 2 ER), four walks and two strikeouts. He was originally signed by the Twins as an undrafted free agent in August of 2022 out of Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Pena, 20, has hit .300 (101-for-337) with 10 doubles, four triples, one home run, 47 RBI, 35 walks, 59 runs scored and a .735 OPS in 83 games between Low-A Fort Myers and High-A Cedar Rapids this season. The Bonao, Dominican Republic native was originally signed by the Twins as an undrafted free agent in January of 2023.
