KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Miguel Sano drove in five runs and Phil Hughes pitched effectively into the sixth inning to give Minnesota the win and hand Kansas City its ninth straight loss.
Sano hit a three-run homer in the third to erase an early 2-0 deficit. He added a run-scoring single in the fourth and an RBI single in the sixth. It was his fourth straight multi-hit game to raise his average to .316.
Hughes (4-1) was charged with four runs on 10 hits, including a Lorenzo Cain home run, in 5 2/3 innings.
