Minnesota answered Chicago’s four-run third with five runs of its own in the bottom of the frame. Kenny Vargas’ three-run shot keyed the big inning in the opener of the three-game series. Ervin Santana improved to 9-and-4 despite giving up six runs in five innings. Brandon Kintzler earned his 18th save for the Twins, who ended a four-game losing streak. Jose Abreu’s monster night wasn’t enough for the Sox. Abreu was 4-for-5 with a homer, two RBI and two runs scored. Chicago has lost two straight.
