The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have recalled right-handed pitcher Zebby Matthews and utility player Ryan Kreidler from Triple-A St. Paul.

Matthews has made seven starts for the Saints this season, going 3-2 with a 4.72 ERA (34.1 IP, 18 ER), 11 walks, 33 strikeouts and a 1.51 WHIP. Over his last three starts for St. Paul since April 26), he has gone 3-0 with a 2.00 ERA (18.0 IP, 4 ER), six walks, 18 strikeouts, a 1.11 WHIP and a .219 opponent batting average. The 25-year-old started 16 games for Minnesota last season, going 5-6 with a 5.56 ERA (79.1 IP, 49 ER), 24 walks and 88 strikeouts. Matthews is scheduled to make the start this afternoon against the Miami Marlins at Target Field.

Kreidler has hit .266 (25-for-94) with seven doubles, five home runs, 15 RBI, 19 walks, three stolen bases, 15 runs scored and an .889 OPS in 26 games with the Saints this season. He hit safely in eight of his 10 May contests for St. Paul, going 13-for-41 (.317) with four doubles, three home runs, 10 RBI, seven walks, a 1.051 OPS and five multi-hit games. This is Kreidler’s second stint with the Twins this season, going 3-for-14 (.214) with one double, two home runs, four RBI, four walks, two runs scored and a 1.103 OPS in five games between April 11-22 (4 starts at third base and 1 in centerfield).

To make room for Matthews and Kreidler on the 26-man roster, the Twins have optioned right-handed pitcher Travis Adams and outfielder Matt Wallner to St. Paul. Adams, who was recalled on Saturday, made two appearances for the Twins, allowing three runs on six hits in 3.2 innings pitched, with two walks and five strikeouts. Wallner has played in 34 games for Minnesota this season, hitting .167 (20-for-120) with three doubles, four home runs, 10 RBI, 10 walks, 14 runs scored and a .551 OPS.
