The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have optioned right-handed pitcher Eric Orze to Triple-A St. Paul.
Orze appeared in a career-high 36 games for the Twins this season, going 2-2 with a 5.66 ERA (41.1 IP, 26 ER), one home run allowed, 21 walks, 36 strikeouts, one save and eight holds.
To replace Orze on the 26-man roster, the Twins will activate right-handed pitcher Tommy Nance, who was acquired in a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays yesterday. Nance, 35, has appeared in 32 games for the Blue Jays this season, going 1-2 with a 3.82 ERA (33.0 IP, 14 ER), 13 walks, 34 strikeouts and a .234 opponent batting average, while ranking in MLB’s 95th percentile in chase percentage (36.4%) and 88th percentile in breaking run value (5).
Nance will be in uniform for this afternoon’s game against the Los Angeles Angels and wear uniform number 35.
