The Minnesota Twins announced that they have placed catcher Christian Vázquez on the 10-day Injured List with a left shoulder infection (retroactive to August 6).
Vázquez has played in 61 games for the Twins this season, hitting .174 (31-for-178) with seven doubles, two home runs, 13 RBI, 12 runs scored, 16 walks and a .251 on-base percentage. He has also caught 13 runners attempting to steal, sixth most in the American League. This marks Vázquez’s first trip to the Injured List in three seasons with Minnesota.
To replace Vázquez on the 26-man roster, the Twins have recalled catcher Jhonny Pereda from Triple-A St. Paul. Pereda, who was claimed off waivers from the Athletics on July 22, played in six games for the Saints, hitting .333 (7-for-21) with two doubles, one triple, one home run, three RBI, seven runs scored and four walks. The 29-year-old has appeared in 39 career major league games with the Miami Marlins (2024) and Athletics (2025), hitting .203 (16-for-79) with two doubles, seven RBI and six walks. Pereda will be in uniform for tonight’s game against the Kansas City Royals at Target Field and wear uniform number 65.
