The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have placed infielder Jose Miranda on the 10-day Injured List with a low back strain (retroactive to July 11).
Miranda, 26, has hit .325 (83-for-255) with 21 doubles, one triple, nine home runs, 43 RBI, 14 walks, two stolen bases, 35 runs scored and an .888 OPS in 76 games for the Twins this season.
To replace Miranda on the 26-man roster, the Twins have selected the contract of infielder Diego A. Castillo from Triple-A St. Paul. Castillo has hit .272 (64-for-235) with 12 doubles, two triples, five home runs, 30 RBI, 39 walks, 34 runs scored and a .783 OPS in 71 games for the Saints this season. The Barquisimeto, Venezuela native began the Triple-A season with Norfolk in the Baltimore system and was acquired by the Twins from the Orioles in exchange for cash considerations on April 5. He originally signed with New York-AL as a free agent on July 2, 2014 and has played in parts of nine minor league seasons in the Yankees, Pittsburgh Pirates, Arizona Diamondbacks, Orioles and Twins systems, hitting .276 (821-for-2976) with 147 doubles, 18 triples, 38 home runs, 343 RBI and a .725 OPS in 790 games. The 26-year-old made his major league debut for Pittsburgh on April 7, 2022 and has played in 97 major league games from 2022-23 with the Pirates (96 games) and Diamondbacks (1 game), hitting .205 (54-for-263) with 13 doubles, 11 home runs, 29 RBI, 14 walks, 28 runs scored and a .630 OPS.
To make room for Castillo on the 40-man roster, the Twins have designated right-handed pitcher Caleb Boushley for release or assignment.
