The Minnesota Twins announced that they have returned right-handed pitcher Zebby Matthews from his rehab assignment and reinstated him from the 15-day Injured List.

Matthews, who was placed on the 15-day IL on June 8 with a right shoulder strain, made one rehab start with Triple-A St. Paul on July 13, pitching 4.0 scoreless innings against Iowa and allowing one hit, with no walks and nine strikeouts. He made four starts for the Twins earlier this season, going 1-1 with a 5.21 ERA (19.0 IP, 11 ER), eight walks and 25 strikeouts. Over his last two starts for Minnesota from May 30-June 4, he went 1-0 with a 3.75 ERA (12.0 IP, 5 ER) and a .227 opponent batting average. Matthews is scheduled to start tonight’s game against the Rockies in Colorado.

To make room on the 26-man roster, the Twins optioned right-handed Travis Adams to St. Paul following last night’s game against the Rockies. Adams appeared in three games during his most recent stint with Minnesota, going 1-0 with a 6.00 ERA (9.0 IP, 6 ER), one walk and six strikeouts, including making his major league debut on July 5 vs. Tampa Bay.
