The New York Yankees acquired left-hander Jaime Garcia from the Minnesota Twins on Sunday and the starting pitcher will be changing teams for the second time in less than a week.
Garcia, a free agent after the season, joined the Twins on Monday after the Atlanta Braves dealt him, catcher Anthony Recker and cash considerations for a minor league pitching prospect.
In the latest trade, the Twins will get two pitching prospects from the Yankees — left-hander Dietrich Enns and right-hander Zack Littell.
Garcia, 31, is 5-7 with a 4.29 ERA over 119 2/3 innings in 19 starts this season with the Braves and Twins. He pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing three runs, and won his Minnesota debut by beating the Oakland Athletics 6-3 on Friday night.
Over nine major league seasons with St. Louis (2008, 2010-16), Atlanta (2017) and Minnesota (2017), Garcia is 67-52 with a 3.65 ERA in 177 appearances (166 starts).
Garcia made five postseason starts for the champion Cardinals in 2011 and posted a 1.80 ERA in two World Series starts. He was acquired by Atlanta from St. Louis in a trade on Dec. 1.
Enns, 26, was 2-1 with a 1.99 ERA over 45 1/3 innings in eight combined games (seven starts) with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and the GCL Yankees East. Over six minor league seasons with the Yankees, he went 27-14 with a 1.87 ERA in 110 games (50 starts). Enns is on the Twins’ 40-man roster and will report to Triple-A Rochester.
Littell, 21, was 14-1 with a 1.87 ERA over 115 1/3 innings in 20 combined games (18 starts) with Class A Tampa and Double-A Trenton. Over five minor seasons with Seattle (2013-16) and the Yankees (2017), he is 35-24 with a 3.24 ERA in 92 games (86 starts). Littell will report to Double-A Chattanooga.
The Yankees also have been in active trade talks with the Oakland Athletics about ace Sonny Gray, according to multiple reports. Garcia’s acquisition does not prevent the Yankees from adding Gray, a source told ESPN’s Buster Olney.
