The Minnesota Twins announced that they have acquired right-handed pitcher Mick Abel and catcher Eduardo Tait in a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies, in exchange for right-handed pitcher Jhoan Duran.

Abel, 23, has gone 7-2 with a 2.31 ERA (74.0 IP, 19 ER), 32 walks, 81 strikeouts, a .200 opponent batting average and a 1.16 WHIP in 13 starts for Triple-A Lehigh Valley this season. The Portland, Oregon native made his major league debut for the Phillies on May 18 and has had two MLB stints this season, May 18-19 and June 4-July 5, going a combined 2-2 with a 5.04 ERA (25.0 IP, 14 ER), nine walks and 21 strikeouts in six starts.

Ranked as the No. 6 prospect in the Philadelphia system and No. 92 in baseball by MLB.com, Abel was originally selected in the first round (15th overall) of the 2020 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft out of Jesuit High School (Beaverton, OR). Abel started for the National League in the 2023 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game at T-Mobile Park, leading the team to a 5-0 shutout win after tossing 1.0 inning with one hit allowed and two strikeouts. He was also named a Phillies MiLB.com Organizational All-Star following his 2023 season.

Tait, 18, has split the 2025 minor league season between Low-A Clearwater and High-A Jersey Shore, hitting a combined .255 (81-for-318) with 22 doubles, one triple, 11 home runs, 57 RBI, 30 walks, 43 runs scored, a .319 on-base percentage, a .434 slugging percentage and a .753 OPS in 82 games. The left-handed hitter has also hit .288 (217-for-753) with 52 doubles, five triples, 25 home runs, 166 RBI, 63 walks, 113 runs scored, a .349 on-base percentage, a .470 slugging percentage and an .819 OPS in 206 games over parts of three minor league seasons.

A native of Panama City, Panama, Tait was originally signed by the Phillies as a free agent in January 2023 and is ranked as the No. 4 prospect in Philadelphia’s system and the No. 56 overall prospect in baseball by MLB.com. He is also ranked by Baseball America as the 50th-best prospect in baseball and third best in the Phillies organization. Tait played in the 2025 SiriusXM Futures Game in July at Truist Park, going 0-for-1, and was a Baseball America Rookie League All-Star in 2024 while playing for the Florida Complex League Phillies.

Duran, 27, appeared in 49 games for the Twins this season, going 6-4 with a 2.01 ERA (49.1 IP, 11 ER), 16 saves, 18 walks, 53 strikeouts, a 1.18 WHIP and a .219 opponent batting average. The Esperanza, Dominican Republic native was originally acquired by the Twins from the Arizona Diamondbacks at the 2018 trade deadline as part of the Eduardo Escobar trade. Over parts of four seasons in Minnesota, Duran went 17-23 with a 2.47 ERA (233.2 IP, 64 ER), 74 saves, 74 walks and 292 strikeouts in 223 regular season games.
