Two men are charged in the disappearance and death of 31-year-old Rose Downwind, granddaugher of American Indian Movement founder Dennis Banks, after the Redby woman’s body was found in a shallow grave northwest of Bemidji. Authorities say Marchello Cimmarusti walked into the Bemidji police station Wednesday and admitted to killing Downwind, his ex-girlfriend — then led police to where she was buried. Also charged is 31-year-old Brandon Rossbach. Tense moments in the courtroom today (Fri), when Cimmarusti’s brother stood up in the back row. Beltrami County sheriff’s deputies and Bureau of Criminal Apprehension agents surrounded the man, who was escorted from the courtroom but eventually allowed to return. Downwind, a mother of five, had been missing since mid-October.
