Sen. Warren Limmer (R-New Hope)
Two dozen Minnesota lawmakers have sent a letter to North Carolina’s governor supporting that state’s policy that requires people use restrooms corresponding to their biological sex. Governor Mark Dayton says they should have more pressing concerns like transportation, education and bonding. Dayton calls it “one of these right-wing, tangential issues that they’re trying to gain traction with the old Moral Majority.” Republican Senator Warren Limmer responds the restriction is not necessarily to protect the public from transgender people, but rather those who may have a criminal intent: “Throw a little mascara on their face and they can sit in a bathroom and wait for a victim.” Governor Dayton has indicated he’ll veto the bill if it reaches his desk.
