Two Iowans survive plane crash in Eveleth

July 7, 2020 By Tasha Redel

The Eveleth Police Department released a statement Monday identifying two Iowans as the occupants in a plane crash Sunday afternoon.  The pilot, 73-year-old Richard Zahasky, and his 68-year-old wife, Roseann Zahasky, both of Decorah, Iowa were treated at a nearby hospital for minor injuries and have since been released. It was reported that the airplane had been heading back to Iowa when it experienced engine problems and the pilot attempted to land at the Eveleth-Virginia airport. St. Louis County Under Sheriff Dave Phillips said a deputy discovered the wreckage of the plane, which was still on fire. “It’s a miracle the two people on board survived,” Phillips said. The accident remains under investigation by the FAA.  (Photo Credit KBJR 6)
