The U-of-M Board of Regents has a special meeting today to consider President Joan Gabel’s proposal that students move into dorms at least two weeks later than expected — and although classes would start on time, they would be totally on-line for at least the first two weeks of fall semester. Gabel announced the proposal Friday in the wake of COVID outbreaks at other large academic institutions in the U-S. Her plan would apply to students on the Twin Cities, Duluth and Rochester campuses — but *not* Crookston or Morris because COVID case counts are lower in those communities.
Move-in for students at the Twin Cities campus was scheduled to begin August 30th. First-year and transfer students at U-M-D were set to move-in this week. Officials say if the Regents approve Gabel’s proposal, housing and dining contracts will be pro-rated for the days students are not on campus.
