The Democrat-controlled U-S House voted 240-to-187 Tuesday night to condemn President Trump’s weekend tweets directed at Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar and three other congresswomen of color. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi drew Republican objections when she called the comments from the White House disgraceful, disgusting and racist. “Every single member of this institution, Democratic and Republican, should join us in condemning the president’s racist tweets,” said Pelosi. Republican Doug Collins of Georgia asked Pelosi if she wanted to re-phrase that comment. “I have cleared my remarks with the parliamentarian before I read them,” Pelosi fired back. Collins then asked that Pelosi’s remarks be stricken from the record — a motion that Democrats later voted down.
Before the House vote on the resolution condemning his earlier comments, the president accused Omar and her colleagues of “spewing some of the most vile, hateful and disgusting things ever said by a politician” and adding, “If you hate our Country, or if you are not happy here, you can leave!”
