The number of postal employees attacked by dogs continues to climb nationwide. Minnesota U.S. Postal Service spokesman Pete Nowacki says between Minneapolis and St. Paul last year, there were 69 dog attacks…
“There were 80 in L.A. and 62 in Houston. So you can see we are up there with a couple of huge metropolitan areas in some company that’s not so good to keep.”
Nowacki says they’ve also had multiple reports of carriers being attacked by dogs in Greater Minnesota as well. He says nearly seven-thousand postal employees were attacked by dogs last year across the country.
Nowacki says letter carriers have the right — to not deliver your letters and packages:
“We give them pretty wide birth to exercise their own judgement. If there is a possibility that they are going to encounter a dog and things could turn bad in their opinion — then absolutely we give them that option to not deliver.”
