Service Employees International Union says Mayo Clinic plans to subcontract with an out-of-state company for its food service and there’s little information about what will happen to current employees. S-E-I-U Healthcare Minnesota President Jamie Gulley says, “Mayo Clinic has been asking for tens of millions of dollars from the state with the pitch that it was gonna bring good jobs to Rochester, but now they’re talking about moving hundreds of really good-paying union jobs to this less-stable subcontractor to help increase their profits.” Gulley adds it appears Mayo is attempting to remove the workers from the Clinic’s pension plan and benefit plans, and they’re very concerned about that as well as any change in seniority rules. Mayo Clinic has not responded to a request for comment.
