Union members chanted and truckers blew their horns outside a downtown Minneapolis hotel, as the Center of the American Experiment celebrated the U-S Supreme Court decision that prohibits government employee unions from collecting dues from those who don’t want to join the union. David Brown says people who don’t want to join will live off the backs of someone else. He says it’s “very comparable to my neighbor chooses not to pay taxes and I have to pick up the extra taxes.”
Mark Janus, who took the case to the U-S Supreme Court, told the audience inside that unions don’t want to talk about First Amendment rights. “They don’t get it,” he says, “and… they’re afraid of their membership having the right to make their own decision.”
