Legalizing sports betting in Minnesota is again an issue at the legislature after the U-S Supreme Court overturned the federal ban, but backers admit action is not likely in the remaining six days of the session. Majority Leader Paul Gazelka says Senate Republicans have not discussed their position: “Personally I’ve been opposed to expanding gambling, but we’ll have to see. A couple years ago it went through the Tax Committee. There was bipartisan support against it. We’ll see where that is from now.”
Governor Mark Dayton says “expanding” gambling would concern him, “but the fact that it’s going on, billions of dollars, and the State of Minnesota’s getting no benefit from that, I would like to correct that for sure.”
