It’s Veterans Day on the Hill at the State Capitol in St. Paul. Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka assured hundreds of Vets from around Minnesota gathered at a rally today “whether its privileges in hunting and fishing, whether it’s Veterans homes, which we’re talking about how do we expand to other places, whether it’s mental health, there are many, many issues, but I want to say you are not forgotten and we care deeply, legislators both sides of the aisle, about making sure that Veterans are taken care of.” Stephen Whitehead with the Disabled American Veterans says today is about reminding lawmakers of the sacrifices Veterans have made for the state and country and adds “we are hoping that they’ll always continue to keep the Veterans in the forefront of their mind and fight for all the benefits we need to do and actually live our life at a high quality.” Whitehead says he’s particularly interested in promoting a bill up for consideration that would expand benefit eligibility for a deceased veteran’s spouse.
