Injured Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is scheduled to have surgery on his dislocated knee Thursday.
U of M Orthopedic Sports Professor Marc Tompkins says ACL injuries can have a significant negative impact on an athlete’s career, but “as surgical procedure for reconstructing an ACL has improved, and maybe even more importantly how the rehabilitation after ACL surgery has developed, oftentimes, athletes will be able to get back to activity and in many cases, get back to the same level of play.”
Bridgewater suffered the season-ending injury at practice last week.
The Vikings’ season begins Sunday against Nashville and team officials haven’t said yet whether back-up QB Shaun Hill or newly-acquired former Eagles QB Sam Bradford will start.
