The Minnesota Vikings have announced the following roster move:
AGREED TO TERMS
Byron Murphy Jr. CB 5-11 190 1/18/98 27 6 Washington Scottsdale, Ariz.
Set to be an unrestricted free agent at the start of the 2025 League Year, Murphy has agreed to terms with the Minnesota Vikings. Murphy, who was selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the second round (33rd overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Washington, originally signed with the Vikings in March of 2023. During the 2024 season, Murphy logged career bests in total tackles (81), tackles for loss (six), interceptions (six) and passes defensed (14) and was voted to his first Pro Bowl. He was one of just two players with at least six interceptions and 14 passes defensed in 2024 (Marlon Humphrey) and became the first Vikings cornerback to record at least six interceptions in a season since Jimmy Hitchcock in 1998 (seven interceptions).
In his first six NFL seasons, Murphy appeared in 87 games, making 79 starts, and recorded 367 total tackles, including 19 for loss, 14 interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown, 61 passes defensed, three forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries. He is one of 12 defenders and one of just four cornerbacks in the NFL to amass at least 350 total tackles and 14 interceptions since 2019.
