The Minnesota Vikings have signed OLB Andrew Van Ginkel to a one-year contract extension. The deal will keep Van Ginkel with the Vikings through the 2026 season.
In his first season in Minnesota in 2024, Van Ginkel garnered the first Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors of his six-year NFL tenure. He recorded single-season career highs in total tackles (79), tackles for loss (18), sacks (11.5) and interceptions (two), finishing the regular season tied for fourth in tackles for loss and tied for eighth in sacks league wide. Van Ginkel was the only player in the NFL with two interception-return touchdowns in 2024, and he joined LB Jason Taylor (2006) as the second player in NFL history since at least 1982 to have at least 11 sacks and two interception-return touchdowns in a season.
Van Ginkel arrived in Minnesota in March of 2024, rejoining Defensive Coordinator Brian Flores, who selected Van Ginkel in the fifth round (151st overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft, Flores’ first draft class as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins. He started 42 of the 73 games he played in five seasons in Miami (2019-23) and recorded 250 total tackles, including 31 for loss, 17.0 sacks, one interception, 21 passes defensed, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries (one returned for a touchdown).
